Marin Montagut at Le Grand Mazarin: Parisian artist enchants Marais shop windows

Internationally renowned Parisian artist Marin Montagut is renowned for his illustrations, dishes and revisited everyday objects, inspired by Paris and everything he has found there. In the heart of the City of Light, Marin wanted to create new images of everything that surrounds him, through his books, his store and his collaborations. So it was only natural that his path should cross that of Le Grand Mazarin, with its strong artistic identity. He has created a memorable artistic installation for the hotel, reimagining human-sized cards from his tarot deck. In the famous Marais district, we are invited to discover his vision, which takes him away from the Left Bank and his cabinet of curiosities, located on rue Madame near the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Who is Marin Montagut?

A French illustrator and designer, he is first and foremost passionate about antique objects and the sometimes-lost skills of yesteryear. This interest undoubtedly comes from his family heritage, with his parents being antique dealers and his grandmother a painter. As a result, Marin has always lived surrounded by artwork and learned to hunt for bargains at an early age, a skill passed down from generation to generation. Attracted to drawing and watercolor, these are the mediums he uses to create his illustrations and collections of Paris, Love, and Travel. Initially based at the Bon Marché Rive Gauche, he opened his own boutique in 2020. There, everything reflects his wonderful, poetic style, a bohemian vision of a Paris of the past. A vision that extends to his workshops, in Paris and Normandy.

He has notably collaborated with Maison Ladurée, La Comédie française, Château de Versailles, Café de Flore, Saint-James, Maison Kitsuné, and more.

A unique artistic performance at the Grand Mazarin

Inspired by Paris and passionate about the divinatory arts, he always wanted to create his own tarot deck. So, for two years, in secret, he imagined, drew and painted the watercolors for each card in his deck. Released this year, the artistic installation at Le Grand Mazarin presents some of the cards in the deck in human size. Each card comes to life, inviting us to plunge into a joyful, pastel-colored universe. A whimsical artist, Marin Montagut drew inspiration from 19th-century engravings to create his pieces. Each one is in relief, superimposing several decors in cardboard, wallpaper and watercolors, to offer visitors a unique vision of what’s close to his heart.

The cards “Le Monde”, “Le Mât”, “La Tempérance”, “L’Étoile”, “Le Soleil” and “La Maison Dieu” can be discovered in the windows of Le Grand Mazarin, true works of art based on the originals of the tarot deck.

Le Grand Mazarin and its commitment to art

Right in the heart of Paris, in the historic Marais district, Le Grand Mazarin has rightly found its place. In this art- and fashion-conscious district of Paris, where creative minds are constantly on the move and galleries are springing up around every corner, Le Grand Mazarin is the patron saint of creativity. Once inside the hotel, there’s a sense of being in a Parisian apartment, where the works have been carefully selected. Designed by Swedish interior architect Martin Brudnizki, the hotel is indeed a showcase for this world, featuring works by Sophia Pega and Jacques Merle as well as those selected by curator Amélie du Chalard. As part of its “La Grande Manufacture” project, the hotel has previously partnered with artist Tiffany Bouelle. In 2025, many other collaborations are to come, allowing each artist to express his or her art and style, and to offer this vision to the general public via the hotel’s façade.

This commitment to the arts is not just of importance to Le Grand Mazarin, but for the entire Maisons Pariente group. Passionate about the arts, the Pariente family is unveiling its Prix Maisons Pariente this year, with the aim of highlighting the emerging art scene, reinforcing the group’s strong artistic commitment, and revealing and supporting young talent in their artistic journey.
